Poetry page; Ballerina's Song of the Earth

Ballerina's Song of the Earth was first published in Ouroboros Review
and also appears in Tessitura.

The poem begins -

Ballerina’s Song of the Earth
(for Darcey Bussell)
Just to the north   high on the crown
of Sorton Tor there’s a metamorphosis
of rocks    beneath my feet
this moor-scape edge   grass hillocks on
greenearth salted with dew

She sashayed
  down from mid-grey skies  -
You must have seen her

on the ground

I began to write Ballerina's Song after a visit to Sourton tor on Dartmoor. I wrote some notes about the poem for a project at
Understanding Landscape at Exeter University
